Coming to Oceanside is the new G League team. The San Diego Clippers. A press conference was held in Oceanside today announcing the news of the arrival of a new G League team affiliated with the Los Angeles Clippers. This movement carries significant historical nostalgia, particularly due to the Clippers' previous association with San Diego from 1978 to 1984. The franchise was known as the San Diego Clippers before relocating to Los Angeles in 1984. As of now the G League team is finishing up the season in Ontario but is going to start next season in the new Front Wave arena being built in Oceanside.

IT'S OFFICIAL: The Ontario Clippers are relocating to Oceanside after this season and will be rebranded as the San Diego Clippers.

What is the G League?

For those who don't follow basketball closely, the G League started in 2001, originally called the National Basketball Development League (NBDL), and has expanded ever since. It has undergone multiple name changes over the years, but in 2017, the title "G League" settled in and has stuck since. The G League serves as the official minor league system for the NBA, providing young players with the opportunity to showcase their talents in hopes of making it to the next step toward the bright lights of the NBA.

The Oceanside Community

The G League team will be playing in the new Front Wave Arena, which is currently under construction. The arena costs around $80 million and can hold up to 7,500 fans. The city approved the project early in 2022, and it is expected to be completed this summer. The presence of a new basketball team in Oceanside can spark the local community. It provides local basketball fans the chance to witness the highest level of basketball in San Diego since 1984, rekindling the basketball spirit in a city with a rich basketball history.
